Grand Floridian’s Alice in Wonderland Splash Pad Is Closed for Refurbishment
If you’re staying at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and were planning on letting the kids burn off some energy at the Alice in Wonderland-themed splash pad, you may need a backup plan.
The resort’s whimsical aquatic play area is currently closed for refurbishment.
The closure was spotted Wednesday, August 12, and Disney has not announced how long the work is expected to last.
Because nothing says “relaxing Disney vacation” quite like discovering that the thing you promised the kids they could do is suddenly surrounded by a refurbishment fence.
The Alice in Wonderland Splash Pad Is Currently Closed
The Alice in Wonderland-themed aquatic play area is located near the Beach Pool at Disney’s Grand Floridian.
The splash pad features colorful Alice in Wonderland theming and interactive water elements designed primarily for younger guests.
It’s also one of those resort amenities that can be surprisingly useful when you have small children.
You know, the children who have already spent six hours walking around Magic Kingdom and have somehow discovered a previously unknown reserve of energy.
The closure was observed on August 12, although Disney has not publicly announced the refurbishment or provided an expected reopening date.
What About the Grand Floridian Pools?
The good news is that this isn’t a “the entire pool area is closed, everybody panic” situation.
The Grand Floridian’s main pools remain available.
That includes the resort’s Beach Pool, which features a zero-depth entry area and waterslide, and the Courtyard Pool.
So if your vacation is coming up, you haven’t suddenly lost access to the resort’s entire aquatic entertainment department.
You just may have to skip the Alice-themed portion for now.
Disney Hasn’t Announced a Reopening Date
This is the part I’d pay attention to if you’re staying at the Grand Floridian soon.
At this point, Disney has not announced how long the splash pad will be closed.
That means we don’t have a reliable reopening date to give you.
And I’m not going to invent one because “probably next Tuesday” is not exactly journalism.
If you have an upcoming stay at the Grand Floridian and the splash pad is an important part of your plans, I’d check directly with the resort before your trip.
Disney’s own Grand Floridian resort page also notes that the hotel is undergoing refurbishments, so guests should expect some projects to be taking place around the resort.
Should You Change Your Grand Floridian Plans?
Probably not.
Unless your entire vacation strategy was built around the Alice in Wonderland splash pad—which, honestly, would be impressive—the closure shouldn’t dramatically change a Grand Floridian stay.
There are still two major pools, plenty of places to relax, transportation to Magic Kingdom and the monorail resorts, and all the other amenities you’d expect from one of Disney World’s flagship hotels.
For families with little ones, though, it’s worth knowing about the closure before you arrive.
That way you’re not standing there with a swimsuit-clad toddler asking, “Where’s the splash pad?” while Mom and Dad desperately search Google.
Not that anyone has ever experienced that particular Disney vacation moment.
Wonderland Can Wait
The Alice in Wonderland splash pad at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is currently closed for refurbishment, and Disney has not announced a reopening date.
The resort’s other pools remain open, so guests still have plenty of opportunities to cool off.
If you’re staying at the Grand Floridian soon, just make sure the splash pad isn’t the centerpiece of your vacation plans.
Because Wonderland can apparently wait.
